Centre for Biomedical Ethics

We would like welcome Greg Moorlock to the Centre, who joins us on an AHRC studentship.  Greg will be examining the ethics of directed and conditional cadaveric organ donation.

The Centre for Biomedical Ethics has the following aims:

  • To achieve a national reputation for empirically informed bioethics by:
    - Developing mixed methodologies for fusing empirical and   philosophical research methods
    - Working closely with other researchers and research teams across the new School
    - Continuing to develop existing areas of interest e.g. paternity and reproductive ethics
  • To continue to produce high quality, internationally recognised publications in mainstream/philosophical bioethics
  • To assist with ethical issues that arise in clinical practice, including both giving ethics advice to practitioners and providing ethics support to research teams across the new School
  • To continue to provide excellent teaching in ethics across the Medical School
  • To work with the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics to develop projects on the international dimensions of healthcare and healthcare ethics
  • To continue to work, with other relevant academics across the University interested in applied ethics, towards giving the University an applied ethics ‘brand’.
  • To continue with appropriate external commitments that enhance the reputation of the Centre and the University.
