The department currently has 5 clinical and 4 non-clinical Chairs, 2 Readers (1 non-clinical), and 8 senior lecturers (5 non-clinical) and a strong early career track for clinical and non-clinical scientists. Since 2000, external research income within the groups exceeded £25 million, around a third each from the MRC and NIHR, and 25% from medical charities. Our research was rated 5* in 2001 and we are a founding member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (Hobbs, Deputy Director).

Employment & Training Opportunities

As a big multi-disciplinary employer, the department regularly advertises new posts at every level for academic and administrative staff. Current opportunities can be viewed on the UoB or jobs.com websites.

In addition, support is sometimes provided for PhDs for high calibre candidates (contact research leads in the first instance) and competitive fellowships. We can support Academic Registrars for General Practice (1 or 2 funded posts advertised to commence each August) and support those seeking a 2 year 50/50 academic/service post for Masters training via the national Walport Scheme.
